Community Youth Action is a social enterprise venture two of our third year criminology students have undertaken. Alonzo Walters and Caleb Questel are currently running a one year pilot session of their mentoring company which provides one to one client contact with action plans tailored to the mentees specific needs.
They are mentoring age groups of 8 to 21 year olds using the STAR model, providing them with bespoke support packages and creating opportunities for change by providing alternatives from potential anti-social or criminal involvement as well as progressive career options.
The have used Make a Difference to help kick-start their community interest company and have also managed to secure £2500 from Innospace.
Alongside this they are also working in partnership with The Integrated Gang Management Unit is a multi-agency team aimed at safeguarding young people, families and communities from violent gang activity and supporting Gang Members exiting from the gang lifestyle.
The partnership incorporates, Children’s Services, YOS, Probation and the Xcalibre Task Force (GMP) working across Manchester and Trafford. They have not only donated £5000 but have also given 3 clients to help CYA in their first year of business.
