Recruiting for Reading Hack does #LoveToRead

According to the Reading Agency, reading for pleasure is more important to children’s development than education or social class.

Reading Hack is teaming up with BBC #LoveToRead to celebrate books and reading in the two weeks leading up to the BBC #LoveToRead weekend in early November. #LovetoRead is a campaign to promote and encourage reading for pleasure and was launched in partnership with public libraries and the main reading charities running from July to November 2016.

On Monday 24th October, Manchester will be hosting the national flagship event-offering an opportunity for young people to get involved in hacking reading activities at Manchester Central Library.

Digital Support Volunteers

As a Digital Support Volunteer you will support library staff throughout the #LoveToRead campaign. Volunteers need to be friendly, enthusiastic, reliable and confident talking to lots of different people.

In this role you will:

  • Use social media to promote the Reading Hack does #LoveToRead event.
  • Use social media to share photos of library events and to pass on book recommendations using @ReadingHack and #LoveToRead.
  • Attend a digital training session at 12 noon- 1pm on Monday 24 October.
  • Support the digital workshops on offer during the event; sharing your skills and engaging young people in the activities
  • Talk to people in the library about #LoveToRead and encourage them to share their reading recommendations.

Events Volunteer 

We are looking for volunteers to help support this event, including general events management tasks and generally ensuring the day runs smoothly.  Volunteers need to be friendly, enthusiastic, reliable and confident talking to lots of different people

In this role you will:

  • Welcome people to the event and encourage them to take part.
  • Spread the word about #LoveToRead and encourage people to share their reading recommendations.
  • Help to run the #LoveToRead activities in the library such as digital/craft activities
  • Look after special visitors to the library such as authors and journalists.
  • Visit the Reading Hack website to find brand new #LoveToRead hacks to share the books you love with other young people.

Promotions Volunteer

As the Promotions Volunteer you will support library staff throughout the #LoveToRead campaign. Volunteers need to be friendly, enthusiastic, reliable and confident talking to lots of different people.

In this role you will:

  • Use social media to promote the Reading Hack does #LoveToRead event.
  • Use social media to share photos of library events and to pass on book recommendations using @ReadingHack and #LoveToRead.
  • Take photos during the event and upload social media
  • Use social media during the event to tweet, vlog, blog and snapchat what’s going on!
  • Talk to people in the library about #LoveToRead and encourage them to share their reading recommendations.
  • Visit the Reading Hack website to find brand new #LoveToRead hacks to share the books you love with other young people.
