Teaching Literacy Workshop

As a Make a Difference Ambassador you have the options to deliver literacy classes in the community to both children and adults.

Many children and particularly adults are reluctant to admit to their literacy difficulties and ask for help. One of the most important aspects of supporting adults with low literacy levels is to increase their self-esteem and persuade them of the benefits of improving their reading and writing. They may also need help to recognise what they can do and acknowledge improvements to their skills, however small.

An essential part of learning to read and write is the understanding that letters and combinations of letters make up particular sounds and words. Without knowing letter-sound correspondences, learners are deprived of a fundamental means of recognising and producing known words and of figuring out new ones when reading and writing.

This training will teach you how to teach literacy through phonics. Experts agree that phonics is one of the aspects of literacy critical to successful literacy learning. Your training in this workshop prepare you to deliver literacy classes to all levels of literacy as well as all age groups.

Spaces are limited on this training session so please make sure that you book onto the workshop via careerhub

Please note that this workshop is ONLY AVAILABLE TO  2016 Make a Difference Ambassadors. We will be recruiting again in January 2017 where this session will once again be repeated to those successful in applying for an Ambassador role
